BP and Professional Surfer Ryan Helm Team Up to Host Free Surf Clinic
For Immediate Release
July 2009 - Jupiter Beach, Florida - Professional surfer Ryan Helm, the Native Surf School and BP will team up to sponsor the first-ever BP-Native Surf School Surf Clinic on July 10 and 11 at Carlin Park in Jupiter Beach, Florida.
The BP-Native Surf School Surf Clinic, through cooperation with the Palm Beach Police Athletic League and the Lew Brandolini Foundation, will provide an opportunity for children between the ages of 8 and 15 to experience the thrill of riding a wave for the first time.
On Friday, July 10, approximately 25 pre-selected children from the Palm Beach Police Athletic League will participate in a free surf clinic hosted by Helm, where they will learn the fundamentals of surfing and ocean safety tips. Then on Saturday, July 11, beginning at 9 a.m., the clinic will be open to general youth beach goers to register to participate, with an opportunity to experience a free surfing lesson with Helm. Participation will be open to the first 25 children, ages 8 -15. Parent permission is required.
In addition to the clinic, BP will be onsite to give away fun prizes, and provide consumers the chance to earn a $10 BP gift card. Helm will also be available throughout the day for autograph sessions and to chat with individuals about how he runs younger for longer®.
Native Surf School was founded by Helm of Jupiter Beach, Florida. In his second year as a spokesman for BP, Helm has been commissioned to help the company promote BP gasoline with Invigorate®, a gasoline that with continuous use, helps clean and protect a car’s vital engine parts, helping it run younger for longer. As an ageless professional surfer and strong fitness advocate, Helm epitomizes this message, as he strives to run younger for longer through surfing professionally and teaching kids the sport he loves.
This year, Helm is also working to help encourage Americans to run younger for longer in their own lives as well, by helping to promote the BP Younger for Longer Challenge, a nationwide contest that asks Americans to visit bpinvigorate.com and tell how they personify this message. The top-20 entrants will receive a first place prize of BP gas for a year, valued at more than $2,000 (gas for a year is awarded as $2,080 in BP gift cards), with one grand prize winner being awarded $10,000 in BP gasoline and more.
