On November 17th we have an important election in this town. We can choose to move forward or remain fractured, divided with each self interest group taking sides with their own agenda and having blinders on to anything else but their own selfish ideas.
There seems to be three main ideas in this town: do nothing and leave it as the quaint little town that it is. Nothing wrong with that but think of some progress because business licenses and taxes pay for city services.
So maybe we can meet halfway ( what a concept) and remain quaint, but moderate the growth. This town will be hard pressed to deliver services without some growth.
Some want to pave over paradise, all you hear from some groups is : the developers are coming!. Again moderate the growth. Use common sense.
Some don't want anything done and all they do is gripe about plans, screw up the works with time consuming lawsuits and most importantly : don't have solutions. If you are going to complain at least give an alternate plan, serve on a city board, run for office, volunteer.
The most dangerous thing is that there is a small cadre who have taken dirty politics to a new level. The outright lies, innuendo and scare tactics used to intimidate candidates, their families, shop keepers and their supporters have reached an all time low. And these people say they do it to "save Lake Worth" .This is a small group but they seem to have the time for rabble rousing while the rest of us have to bust our tails for a living, something called a job.
Now I'm not a Pollyanna and I realize we are all adults but we have to stop being the laughingstock of the county with the circus that is going on. I take my hat off to everyone who ran for office, at least you showed you cared.
Why don't we have a credo like this: let's do what is best for the entire city, not just for small self serving groups. Make a difference, vote on Nov 17th, maybe we can start a common sense movement.
